Why do we have lines in our palms and bottom of our feet? Have they got some specific physical purpose ?

I have discussed this question with some people. One of the common replies has been that these lines facilitate folding of our hands. But then can we conclude that these lines are an outcome of physical process of folding of our hands only ? In that case why Palm reading is done to predict one's future?

Medical science explains that these are because fetus folds hands tight but that does not explain sole prints . Lines on soles and palms are finger prints specific for each individual . They differ in identical twins also. Some lines are similar in parets and children. Monkeys gorilla, chimpanges also have similar lines and research in zoos and circuses should clear the doubt.

I say we have the lines because just like everything that is folded ends up with a crease, then since we are in the womb our fingers automatically fold into our hand and eventually the creases are made.
