I read If You Give A Mouse A Cookie as well, I had forgotten about that book! I also enjoyed The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Stories. And when I got older, the Hardy Boys and Goosebumps.

I love Laura Numeroff...I really liked If you give a pig a pancake in addition to if you give a mouse a cookie. :)
Dr. Seuss, of course.
Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst is one of the best.
Umbrella by Taro Yashima
I read the Babysitters Club, and one about gymnasts...it might have been "the gymnasts" or something like that...anyway, those kinds of series were very fun in elementary school.
Little House on the Prairie
Chronicles of Narnia
Charlie & the Chocolate factory.

Enid Blyton books... the Circus, Magic Faraway Tree, Naughtiest Girl, and St Clare's series in particular. I also loved Ann M. Martin's Baby-sitters Club series. Oh, and Miffy books!

My very first book, was "Mr. Pink Whistle" by Enid Blyton. She was a British author, and wrote series of books like "The Secret Seven", and the "The famous Five".
Later, I started reading "Sweet Valley" books series, and ofcourse, "The Babysitters Club".
I also read " The Full House" book series.
R.L Stine Horror novels. He had a series called "Goosebumps" which I loved.
Oh and ofcourse, I read almost all of the "Nancy Drew" mysteries.

Copy Kitten, I think it is a Little Elf Book
Barney Beagle and
Cat in the Box, Easy Readers
(mid 1960's is my time frame)
I remember walking with my mother to the little neighborhood market and her getting them for me. I couldn't wait to get them home, so I'd stumble all the way home looking at them. Then she would sit down and help me learn how to read them.
A very large Disney Book called
Uncle Remus Stories
I think it was from Disney's movie Song of the South. Which I've never seen. I loved Brier Rabbit. "Don't throw me into that Brier Patch"
You'd have to read it to appreciate it.
My mom would read this one to me.
These are all ancient and I bet very hard to find
I no longer have Copy Kitten :'o( and Barney Beagle no longer has it's cover. I still have poor Uncle Remus , but I'm afraid he was loved to pieces.
When I got a little older:
Little House on the Prairie Books
King of the Wind
The Black Stallion Books
I loved the
Robin Kane Series, too
and a series of mysteries about
Meg
(kinda like Nancy Drew, but I thought Robin And Meg were better.)
I wish I could find all these for my kids.

The Gillie Goo Fang. It was my favorite. It was about this fish that only did things a certain way and wouldn't change. One day his foolishness caused him to be in danger of going over a waterfall. He had to change to survive. When I was older I read The Babysitter's Club, Sweet Valley High, and Hank the Cowdog. In fourth grade, I moved on to reading adult books. I'm probably the only person in history to get a detention for writing a book report on Cujo.
