First start out by going through every number, like try and find all your 1s before going to 2s, etc. once you get to number 9 go back through the other numbers that you were not able to find all nine locations of. In some cases if you have a 3x3 square that only two numbers are missing from don't wait to get to those numbers, put them in asap, they could be helpful in other squares.

Scientific American Magasine published a great atricle on Sudoku, last month. It has solving tips as well as other aspects of the "game".

eliminate numbers that are already there, keep a list of possible choices to pick.
