I'm talking about a three day journey to visit relatives you didn't even know -- that kind of thing. Tell us about it.

Oh, God, yes.

Our family made many long-distance car trips over the years.

When I was very small, my dad thought it would save time (!) if there was an in-car toilet for the back seat, so that we wouldn't have to make so many rest stops. So, mom got a hacksaw, and obligingly cut the legs of a wooden potty chair.

Well, I was a normal little girl, and normal little girls do not use potty chairs in the back seats of family sedans (imagine doing that while in rush hour traffic around Chicago, and you'll get the picture).

Dad finally gave in, and, the next trip, made the necessary rest stops (little kids make hundreds per day)...yet another way that my younger sistrs benefitted from my work at breaking in the parents!

Funny you ask this question because I was remembering a trip I took with my family when I was about 4. We drove to California from Texas and even though it was only a 12 hour drive as a 4 year old it seemed like forever. I remember passing through Indio, Ca. , boy is it HOT there !!! I also remember myself and other kids in car undressing to our underware because the heat was unbearable. We finally got there. I will never forget my thinking the nightmare would never end. Now as an adult I have driven by Indio, Ca. and it's really not THAT bad, but I guess when you're a kid everything seems longer and hotter.

Yes, we did often travel on long trips to visit family and friends of our parents. Our father was in the Army, therefor we traveled much and met many people.
But, I do remember how excited we would all get when we where going to visit our Granny and Papa. We loved them so much.

Yes I did, but never was it boring. We use to spend our entire summer vacation at some hill station with a few family members. You talk about three days, and we spent over a month and never got bored.
