If you can count, read, write, talk to people in person and on the phone, then you're qualified. Be yourself, be confident and good luck.

Use perfect grammar and clear concise speech. That's the best tip for someone trying to secure a job meeting the public.

I would NOT wear denim with heels and a sweater. Scope out the front desk of the hotel yourself before the interview or have a friend do it and dress one "level" higher than the person working the front desk now.

Be honest about your biggest flaw. If you are not that will come back to haunt you later. They could ask you a follow up question about that flaw and if you have made one up you will have to fumble around for an answer.

I'm sure that wearing denim with heels is okay with a sweater that's what I wore to my first interview. Dressy but casual. You want to be comfortable and just be yourself because if you're not and they like the way you're acting, it might be hard to keep up the act throughout the job.
And about the flaws, if you don't have any, then you don't really need to say anything but if you aren't a people person or you are bad with speaking loudly, then you might want to say something about that...
I wasn't sure about my first interview but thank goodness I was lucky and they were in dire need of help. But definetly be confident and be comfortable with yourself, it always helps to speak with good diction as well. Hope that helps and have fun!

Think about all the things that the job entails and what skills are truly needed. Which ones jump out? Customer service is #1. Regardless of how a guest behaves, you always have to be curteous, respectful, and helpful. You can never lash out at a guest by yelling or hanging up.

You have to be extremely knowledgeable about the various services at your hotel. Why? Because you're the first person they encounter and they'll often ask you questions.

And you have to be able to handle pressure. There are times when they'll be a flood of guests checking in. If you're not good at handling pressure, then you'll loose your cool and not offer good service. Plus you have to be fast. Nobody wants to wait an hour to get to their room.

And you'll have to be flexible. You may put a guest into a room near the ice machine when they would prefer to be in a corner room. A guest might want to be on a certain floor.

For example, when I worked at a hotel, I handled some asian tour groups. In some asian countries, the number 9 is an unlucky one. Well, I had some guests who refused to stay on any floor or room with a 9 in it. The front desk personnel needed to know this, and I had to make sure they didn't mess up.

Bottom line, you're my first impression of the hotel besides the guest service personnel. So you have to be dressed nicely, be helpful, and get me to my room as quickly as possible. Not an easy job, partly because it's hectic and hours vary, but moreso, because you have to always put on a happy face.

to acquire the job, you need to act as if you're performing the duties during the interview. Show qualities during the interview that may be needed as a "hotel front desk officer". rather than explaining a lot about what you can do, show them what you can do and show valuable social qualities during the interview. it's also good to have manners and reply to questions with an enthusiastic work attitude. First impressions are important. i also know that people usually say "dont be nervous" but its good to show signs of nerves during an interview because it shows that you care about the job enough to stress about it. just dont be TOO nervous.
