The answer is yes and no.
I just heard today that MSN IM and Yahoo were working out a deal to allow their instant messengers to play nice with each other. I also heard that AOL and Google were working on the same thing. So from a direct point no Yahoo and AOL do not play nice with each other.
But on the other side both have FREE ID setup. If you have IDs for both you can download free software (lookup Trillian) that as long as you have ids for both will let you IM accross almost any IM platforms.
I believe Linux has a similar setup but again for these you have to have seperate IDs on both IM systems.
With the new setup Yahoo will soon be able to go directly to MSN IM (and visa versa) without having the extra IDs.

Yahoo! and AOL used to IM each other all the time, but then AOL stole Yahoo!'s boyfriend and they stopped talking to one another. Its pretty sad really.

Sure... There is a program called Trillian which allows users of AOL YAHOO, MSN, and even IRC chat for all you old farts on the internet to chat through one program... It's a really great program for chatters and I think it's freeware... It may be shareware but it is a really easy to use program.

the easy answer is not any. you are able to get carry of clientele like trillian (on homestead windows), Gaim (on linux) or Adium (on Mac) which will assist you log onto AOL MSN Yahoo etc. yet no longer message "for the period of" networks. you ought to attempt making use of Meebo also that provides similar function yet by the browser. MSN and Yahoo are going to make their instantaneous messengers nicely ideal sometime in the destiny.
