i think it's because in today's society people only want to see what's on the outside and not what's on the inside....you can be the most awesome looking person on the outside but be a total jerk on the inside...likewise you can be the ugliest person in the world on the outside but the most beautiful, kindest, caring and understanding person on the inside....believe me i know...people need to get to know and accept people for who they are and not expect them to conform to what they want them to be...

Hey, when ya get old, ya realize that all that pretending is an empty waste of time. Be who you are. Love and accept yourself and enough of society will, too. Open your circle of friends AND your mind to the differences of others. That's what makes living a rich journey worth travelling a long, long time.

I know something you don't know...

Power and influence is part of it. Stupidity towards long-term effects is another. And human nature. Being fake is one way of protecting our self esteem with regard to how we are accepted by others. Most people want to belong and want to be valued.

Unfortunately the way to do that is never really taught by our parents who also struggle with the same issues.

To make other people comfortable. We are comfortable around people who act in predictable ways, ways we are used to.

We want to make people comfortable because it is to your personal best-interest to avoid making others uncomfortable. Whoever interviews you for a job may not hire you if you give them a weird feeling. The same goes for dating/marriage/mating.

If you really are strong, you would refuse to let the world mould you. (1 Joh 5:19) People live by the flesh, so they will die by thy flesh.

I feel sorry for you or anyone else that can not feel free enough to be themselves. No one has the right to judge you. Only God has that right.
Do not allow anyone to take away the "You" that God created.
Please, try to be yourself, and you will have much more freedom in your life and heart.

It's up to you if you would rather pretend than to be yourself. I prefer to be me.
