I am a psychology major. I'm heading into my sophomore year and I have only taken two general psychology classes. I plan on either getting my Psy.D. or Ph.D. I am not 100% sure about the path that I would like to take but if I am leaning more towards working with abused/troubled children-young adults. Any suggestions to this question and anything else that has to do with this subject?

You should continue on as a Psychology major. Make sure you also take the prerequisite courses for a Master in Social Work.

Then go to Grad School and get your Masters in Social Work (MSW) to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). There are many "tracks" in the MSW, but you can specialize in children and families.

From there you can work in a county department of social services working directly with programs for abused children and teens. Or you can set up a therapeutic practice and do therapy with these groups.

Good luck!
