Some great 60s band were obviously the Rolling Stones, along with The Zombies, Grass Roots, Young Rascals, Blood, Sweat & Tears, along with The Lovin' Spoonful.

As for the 70s, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Kiss, early Van Halen.

The 80s, there's a lot of them, Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Guns N' Roses, Duran Duran, that's just a few.

CCR was no. 1! That is, Credence Clearwater Revival.
Beatles were really, really up there, before CCR.
After both of them, the BeeGees.
Can't omit the Rolling Stones, who lasted for so long it wasn't funny... and you still know who they are today! These are the big ones, but there were plenty more, believe me.
