Well, you're looking at a voting constitutancy of some 30%- thats a respectable voting block. Traditionally, the democrats have relied heavily on giving these votes to their selected candiates.
It affects Foreign Politics to the extent of where their tax money goes, and what kinds of social programs that are directly impacted by policy.
