And if so, why? Somebody told me it was, but it doesn't sound like it to me. Did they just mean gay in the "dumb" meaning of the word?

The song differs from the classic Matchbox 20 sound, its much more pop-ish. This does not necessarily make it "gay" as his other songs were about heartache and heartbreak. Its a catchy song but I like Mad Season better.

He could be talking about paying for sex, hey ya never know unless the artist reveals what the song is about themselves

Well there are serveral references to girls in the song so I really dont think he is refering to another guy in the song. I think your friend just meant "gay" as to mean "dumb".

ROB THOMAS LYRICS

Lonely No More

Now it seems to me
That you know just what to say
Words are only words
Can you show me something else
Can you swear to me that you'll always be this way
Show me how you feel
More than ever baby

[Chorus:]
I don't wanna be lonely no more
I don't wanna have to pay for this
I don't want to know the lover at my door
Is just another heartache on my list

I don't wanna be angry no more
You know I could never stand for this
So when you tell me that you love me know for sure
I don't want to be lonely anymore

Now its hard for me with my heart still on the mend
Open up to me, like you do your girlfriends
And you sing to me and it's harmony
Girl, what you do to me is everything
Make me say anything; just to get you back again
Why can we just try

[Chorus:]
I don't wanna be lonely no more
I don't wanna have to pay for this
I don't want to know the lover at my door
Is just another heartache on my list

I don't wanna be angry no more
You know I could never stand for this
So when you tell me that you love me know for sure
I don't want to be lonely anymore

What if I was good to you, what if you were good to me
What if I could hold you till I feel you move inside of me
What if it was paradise, what if we were symphonies
What if I gave all my life to find some way to stand beside you

[Chorus:]
I don't wanna be lonely no more
I don't wanna have to pay for this
I don't want to know the lover at my door
Is just another heartache on my list

I don't wanna be angry no more
You know I could never stand for this
So when you tell me that you love me know for sure
I don't want to be lonely anymore

I don't wanna be lonely anymore [x3]

I never thought it was "gay" in the homosexual sense of the word.
It is actually pretty cool - check out the video.

it's a good song... it isn't "gay" in either sense of the word

They meant 'gay' as in 'dumb' or 'it sucks', yes.

Personally, I like it.
Lots of heterosexual males probably wouldn't like it though... a lot dont tend to go for that type of music. ;/
