They are a bunch of whiny little brats that cry because daddy didnt hug them enough. In other words.....they are a bunch of douchebags.

OK, for this... I thought I knew, but I went to my 19 year old daughter and my 24 year old son to verify my answer and they gave me a little more info to help you out.
EMOS is a style of music. There is a fashion style associated with it. However, it is mostly a style of music. It's somewhat of a Punk and Hardcore mix. Kind of a whiny music.... like Punk/hardcore and Country had a baby and it is EMO. The kids that follow it are usually called EMOS. A couple of the groups are: Dashboard Confessional and All American Rejects.

My teen son informed me that they are kids who are very emotional, hence "emo." They're manic- depressive but apparently they choose to be that way. Why? I don't know. These kids wear a certain type of clothing style (girl's jeans) and a certain haircut, the dyed black emo cut.
Some of these kids end up being cutters.

Emo stands for "emotional". Emo people are emotional ... however, since the creation of the word, people have centralized it to a specific 'type' of person, a 'style' ... like 'jock' 'goth' etc ... (look above for examples of that.)

Emo is a type of clothing style. It's like skateboarder style with the saggy jeans, spiked hair, Puma shoes, etc.

ok im not emo, but if you dont want to be attacked or cussed off by them. first dont say "emos" say emo ppl. b/c they take labeling seriously, and i understand why. emo stands for emotional. theyre deep and theyre a much lighter form of goth. but theyre great ppl to have as friends. some of my friends are emo and i love them =)

people/bands(music) that are more emotional than most... stereotypes about them are: they write poetry, slit their wrists, wear band tshirts, have their hair parted more to one side.
and armymom is wrong, the all-american rejects are not emo. try death cab for cutie.

take it from me i woululd know-- alot of my friends are emo. its a stero-type for ppl who are depressed. and ppl who say they just want attention and whine are wrong. theyve just hard a hard time and been through ppl shouldnt judge them, they have every right to be depressed if they wanna... yup yup
