It just says the kitchen is to be 12 ft x 12 ft. Find the total cost of the plywood using 3/8 in sheet and 3/4 sheet.
3/8 = $14.99 and 3/4 = $21.36

This is a math assignment. The only info it gives is:
Benjamin and Olivia are putting a new floor in their kitchen. To get the floor up to the
desired height, they need to add 1 1/8 ft of subfloor. They can do this in one of two ways.
They can put 1/2 -in. sheet on top of 5/8 -in. board (note that the total would be 9/8ft or 1 1/8 ft).
They could also put 3/8-in. board on top of 3/4 -in. sheet.
The table below gives the price for each sheet of plywood from a Home Depot store
on 1/15/04.

There was a question I had answered, and it came out to 3/8 in sheets with the 3/4 in sheets. 3/8 = 14.99 and 3/4 = 21.36

The question I am have trouble with is:
The kitchen is to be 12 ft x 12 ft. Find the total cost of the plywood you have figured
in the previous question .

hi there

From what little knowledge I have on this:

3/8 and 3/4 sounds like the thickness of the plywood.
At home depot default size plywood is 8 feet tall by 4 feet wide the thickness varies.

and if that is the case, without considering the amount lost due to cutting, you can use 4 1/2 sheets

Draw a 3x3 area and make a 1x1 area equal 4 feet square (4'x4')
you'll see what I mean.

so that just multiply 14.99x4.5 and 21.36x4.5 and there ya go!

Hope that helps!

P.S. This covers the floor only since you never described any depth I am assuming that you are not trying to fill a room with plywood LOL

If you are talking about Ply-wood, it comes in 4x8 sheets. It will take 4.5 sheet to cover the floor of your kitchen. Please mult. this number by the individual cost.

using the first cost-rate, divide (144x144) by (0.375x0.375)...get 147482.21 sheets, you will pay $2.2 million.

Using the second cost-rate, divide (144x144) by (0.75x0.75)...get 36864 sheets, you will pay $787,000. Conclusion: go with the second rate to save 1.4 million.
