Popular song (Oldie but Goodie)
Laurie (Strange Things Happen in this World)
by Dickey Lee lyrics by Milton "Mitt" Addington

Listen to "Laurie", a popular song that reached #14 in the U.S. in 1965. Then do a transcription of the lyrics. Some of the vocabulary is given to help you. Have you ever heard a story similar to this one before, Chinese or otherwise? What two meanings does this phrase have: 'an angel of a girl''? How about 'so lovely and warm'? Why did Laurie 'suddenly' think to ask for the narrator's sweater? In what two ways was she 'cold'? What do you think inspired the writer to come up with a story like this?
