Why is it necessary to have those words displayed there at all? If a religious person was truly devoted to their faith, surely their faith in God could not be disrupted by not being reminded to trust God when they are at the post office?

Furthermore, what does having those words on public display really mean? To whom does the pronoun "We" refer to? If it refers to the postal employees, then it is quite presumptuous. Is every postal employee a theist? Does the post office employ discriminatory hiring practices that prevent atheists (and for that matter, polytheists) from working there? Or better yet, does the post office knowingly hire atheists and polytheists, and then put the sign there to remind them how wrong they are about religion every time they come to work?

Or does "In God We Trust" refer to the post offices patrons? Should a priest stand at the door to the post office like a bouncer at a night club making sure only theists have access to our publicly funded mail system? Will I have to say 5 Hail Mary's and 4 Our Fathers in order to send my Grandmother a birthday card?

I, however, would like to avoid all of that. Lacking the power to convert every postal employee and customer to Christianity (or other such suitable religion) How about we just agree to keep our PERSONAL religious choices out of PUBLIC places?

When you allow the government and religion ( God, Allah, etc ) you end up with something like Iran, Syria, etc. You also end up with W. saying he won't support stem cell research ( which could cure cancer, Alzheimers, Parkinson's, diabetes ) because he thinks it is contrary to his religious beliefs. With that thinking he has written off millions of people with those diseases not only in the USA but the world. If you want god in and on everything, that is fine, it is your right as an American. It is also MY right as an American not to have you or anyone else, especially the government, telling me that in god we trust- because I don''t. Your god, allah, etc allowed Hitler to kill 6 millions Jews. Your God allowed for the creation and the deployment of two atomic bombs. Your God allows babies to dies in wars, to be born with aids, to let the mothers of those babies starve to death ( in Africa ) and so many more things. What, is god on vacation? Has he given up? Is he bored with people? Burned out? Because from where I sit, he is not answering your prayers or anyone else's that have asked for the war to be over and the soldiers returned home. So where is your god, and what has he done for the poor lately, the hungry, the sick, the oppressed. Because these problems are increasing, not decreasing. So if your god answers prayers, why are there still hungry people, sick babies, and wars that kill people? And don't give me this bull **** that god wants us to feel the suffering he had when he gave his only son. The suffering that has gone on in his name is far and away more than anything a god would want for his people/ children.
