We found that Beta fish actually do better in bigger tanks. I have a 5 gallon tank. only one fish in a tank. with a pump putting air into it. feed it only 2-3 pellets of food every 1 or 2 days.. no more than that. good luck

I had a few betas in my time. I couldn't figure out why they were dying so much. One thing I found was where my fish was bought. My betas were mass produced, and sometime during their travels to the store, they contracted a disease which made their life short. I am sorry to hear about your sister's fish.
Wait...were the 2 beta in the same tank? If they were...they killed each other figthing! The other name for the fish "Japanese Fighting Fish!!!"

Beta's are fighting fish. They will kill eachother, they will even kill the females. If they are being overfed, they will die. If there is not enough oxygen, they will die. So, try some easy fish to raise...guppies, mollies, swordtails...usually any livebearing fish are easier to raise than Beta's. Anyway we have had better luck with the live bearers. Good Luck

does she have it in a bubble tank or just an open jar?

If you use bubbles than the fish is getting too much oxygen. Use an open bowl/tank and put marbles at the bottom with a little plastic plant.

Fish lived in a bowl?
Might not be enough air.
They need a fish tank with air pump, and filters...
See a Pet Store.

well if you had them both in the same tank they probally killed eachother. Or if you dont let the water sit for about a day or two after you change before putting the fish back in theres some chemical in there that can kill them. =]

Is she using water straight from the tap? If it's city water, it has chlorine and that will kill the fish. She needs to get tablets that reverse the chlorine, or let the water sit for several days and the chlorine will evaporate out.

Betas are chinese fighting fish and if you put them in the same bowl they will kill each other. So next time you get 2 betas put them in seperate bowls next to eachother. :)

if both are boys then they died because they probably were fighting for a female betta

if both were females, they died because they didnt have the chance to mate

if one was a boy and the other was a girl then i wont know how they died
