i see people buying things that they can go out and get from Target, Wal-Mart etc. new today on eBay for more than it would cost new and still have to pay shipping. Is it a sickness to win at all odds?

It is auction mentality. Some times you pay more and sometimes less. But the answer is in the phrase"you won the bid" Makes you think you have won something, not that you'll be paying for something. There are far worse ways to waste time and money. It depends on what the individual considers to be recreation and entertainment.

Our world places a different value on things than it used to. Years ago, a person wouldn't have dreamed of paying more for something than it's worth at the local store, but today, it seems to be a "game," and they don't know they "lost." I think they have more money than they have brains and will win just for the sake of winning. It can also be an addiction, as I know people who HAVE to bid and win because of obsessive/compulsive behaviors and it doesn't matter what it costs. They will even go in debt to "win." We do have more gambling addicts than ever before with all the new beautiful Indian gambling casinos in Oklahoma for example. If a person is an addict, he/she will find some way to fulfill their compulsion, no matter who gets hurt.

Well a lot of people are disabled for one thing and can't get out and walk around in stores so they shop a lot on TV shopping channels and ebay, etc.

I sell on ebay and I found a perfectly nice nearly new Dooney and Bourke Handbag at the GoodWill store for $2.00! Brought it home, took a pic of it inside and out and sold it for $111.60!!!!!
NO KIDDING! That's been my best deal to date.

Sometimes it is a sickness of collecting certain things that you think you need but are really just more dust collectors.

I totally know what you are talking about. I think it is a novelty. People like to think that their world is progressing into the future and want to start using some of the technology instead of using their old ways. They probably just like the difference of not having to get in the car and drive to the store to pick up something they want. Alot of people do get ripped off using Ebay. I was very close to getting ripped off myself so I completely know what you're talking about.

Its an auction...Sometimes it's the mentality of outbidding someone else...Also, lots of people don't have a Wal Mart (lucky them)

It's stupid. Sometimes people just want to win the auction and come out on top. Others just don't know how much it can be bought for somewhere else.

To some its gambling, the adrenaline to be a winner for some...Another is some people aren't able to get out and shop, so they use the Internet or TV

Because they don't check the prices or get caught up in bidding wars like it's gambling. Or maybe locally it's not carried or is sold out and its not on the website? Who knows...
