I dont know if you were being sarcastic about Iraq not having oil but they do, and its among the cheapest to pump in the world and they have a lot of it. Although Israel and Lebanon don't have oil the instability of the region is what will send gas prices up. The threat of any possibility that the oil supply to the United States could be disrupted by markets, actual disruption, or oil companies buying extra in case something does go wrong. The mere mentioning of the fact to consumers will change buying trends which will again change the price. This will no doubt affect gas prices but its not really a crock of sh*t, you have to consider all of the different variables. Oil politics and energy are intertwined and more people should take the opportunity to enlighten themselves.

We support Israel, and OPEC supports Islamist movements, so if the West supports Israel, OPEC will charge us more money for oil. Also, instability breads fear, and people like to prey off of fear. Just look at Global Warming. It's a natural trend in the climate that has gone on for as long as there has been an atmosphere on our planet, yet with a little well placed media coverage, and we have a false crisis that everyone buys into, and causes all kinds of regulation to be passed.

Iran does though. It's the 2nd largest exporter of oil in the world, according to some news i watched. I'm not completely sure they said 2nd largest, but basically Iran has alot. The point is, that Iran is involved in this mess, so their political stability has the potential for trouble, not to mention the whole nuclear missile issue. And yes, it could go up to $5/gal or more in some areas.

Despite that- I think everybody around here is kind of expecting prices to be around that range by sometime next year. Man- what is this world coming to?
