The first answer has some good starts.

As for our communities, we see population changes in immigration and migration and how the influx of people change the nature of communities. A good example of this is the great Black Migration in the early 1900s. Blacks from the south moved to the midwest and northeastern cities. Soon whole sections of cities (in particular, I know about Chicago), had a Black majority. What resulted was the rest of the city structuring itself around the Black communities because racism as still rampant.

Immigration and migration also affect crime rates in areas. For example, latino communities tend to have less crime than Black communities, and even some white communities.

Population moving in and out of communities can also change the economies of the community; when middle class move out, they take with them economic resources and community amenties. All sorts of problems can ensue.

Check out the books below or google/wikipedia them. They will have good summaries.

Human overpopulation is the greatest problem the world faces. It is the source of most of the other conflicts such as resource scarcity, war, hunger, and global warming.

You should read what political economists Thomas Malthus and David Ricardo had to say about population.
