This question is difficult because it depends on a lot of factors. What you want to use the car for ex. racing, daily driver, it also depends on your financial capabilities vettes cost more to upkeep than mustangs, and they require a lot of upkeep generally because they are made by GM. If you just want a cool looking daily driver car get a mustang, and if you're really asking this question you probably don't need to waste your money on a vette. People who buy vettes usually have some burning desire within them to own them its not usually cause they are really wonderful cars. and I am talking about regular vettes not z06's so no one read this and yell at me please and tell me I'm wrong they are different I know :)

This is the easiest question I've seen so far. The Corvette is better, hands down. The Corvette is a sports car, which means it is sleaker, more powerful, and will definately catch more attention. The only downside to the Corvette is that it doesn't have a backseat, but Mustangs might as well not have one anyway because it is so small. Mustangs give you barely any visibility, has a harsh ride and the acceleration is lacking. Corvettes have the Magnetic Selective ride control allowing the driver to select how stiff the shocks are, and they are fast. Even the new Shelby Mustang GT500 couldn't match the base Corvette (Car and Driver July 2006, pg.50-55). Mustangs just don't have what it takes. Oh, and by the way, Corvettes get better gas mileage and have more cargo space, believe it or not. Corvettes start out at 54,000 making them only about 20,000 more, for so much better performance.

I've always been a Chevy guy but quite frankly, Chevy doesn't make one car right now that I even like. Not even the vette. I like the newstalgia look of the mustang and I was just reading about two hot new models they're coming out with. So I'd have to say Mustang. I've already got a mustang convertible but not one of these new ones.

mustang is a pony car, whereas the vette is a muscle car. it's like comparing a harley davidson to a scooter. assuming that you get at least the ZR1 package on the vette. speed and acceleration is in the vettes favor. performance, styling and drivetrain are dominated by the vette. mustang is more a punk teenager or midlife crisis car. vette is for the enthusiast and for the nostalgic. both have long rich histories in the automotive world but there are none who would argue that the mustang is superior to the vette in any case. bottom line, both get horrid mileage but you'll at least look good in a vette. mustang kicks out about 250 HP? whereas the vette is around 400.

Vettes were an answer to the Thunderbird. They have always been an elite vehicle. For sissy wannabes with more money than sense... I like the '64 variety and would love to have one.
The Mustang however was a unique concept car that ushered in the muscle car era. It started a cultural trend and therefore is inherently a better vehicle.

Even the most avid ford fan cannot say (or provide a reasonable explanation) that the Mustang is on par with the corvette.

The new (2005 + ) Mustangs have a Retro appeal that is just awesome.
I am sure vettes are faster...but they cost twice as much as well.
Personally I don't think there are not too many nicer looking cars out there than the new Mustangs.
