Convenience, mobility.

Pros: mobile computer, can be used as home computer, newer ones have built-in wireless capability, make you feel important at Starbucks.

Cons: Laptops are usually twice the cost of a desktop for the same horsepower, replacing battery is costly, upgrades are expensive, sound on laptops is pretty poor quality, takes time to adjust to smaller keyboard and the pointing device, expense of laptop case.

I'd buy one if you rely on computers for work or school and being mobile can increase productivity. If you want one just to have one you'll find it's a really expensive toy that's not worth much money in a few years.

P.S. If you do buy one be sure get an "EM64T" or "AMD64" processor, at least 1GB RAM with the best ATI Radeon video card you can afford. Windows Vista is coming out in about 6 months and you'll be left in the dust if you laptop doesn't support it.

Mobility is the main feature. Opportunity to have a computer wherever you are. Excellent tool for anyone who needs to display information for others in other locations.

For me, as a Web & graphics developer/designer, this feature is important in aiding me to meet with clients and give them visuals of the end product rather than simply using drawn facsimiles.

I work inside and outside and greatly prefer the ability to change my location at will. Wireless internet access is another bonus.

So the relevance to purchasing a laptop really rests with what you perceive as being important to you. So far I haven't found a lot that hinders me. Our household has 6 desktop systems, one for each member and then the 7th is mine which is a laptop. I much prefer the convenience the laptop offers me and although it might not be for everyone, it's perfect for my requirements.

im not sure what you mean but really unless ur in school or traveling there isnt much relevence....if you have a large house then a wireless settup and a laptop can be covienient to but if i had a choice a desktop is much better and more powerful for the same money.
