I had been out of college for 20 years when I took the GRE. I had no idea how to study for it. I found it to be a lot like the older form of the SAT. Go on line and find all the study sites you can. I did fine on the test, but I was an exception. My friend tried the same thing when she had been out of college only 5 years and bombed the GRE.

There are 2 basic study guides: Kaplan's and Princeton Review. I used Princeton Review and it helped. Pick up a study guide along with CD for about $20 at a bookstore.

Study for the vocabulary section. You will come across words that you've never heard of and didn't know existed. All of the prep books recommend improving your vocabulary to raise your score. I took it in January and made the score I needed the first time. It is stressful, but if you start studying early, you should be fine.
