If you can, apply for a home center, like Depot, or Lowes. Try to get in one of their sales departments or start off as a cashier. It'll do two things, help you interact with the public on a professional level and equally inportant, you get a very good working knowledge of how to do things, yourself. I'm not talking about building a home but more like quick repairs, painting, gardening, things that will really be a benefit to you in later life so you won't have to dish out a bundle to have people do it for you.
I did it when I was 16-18 and I learned a bundle.

It's a little late for summer work, but how about training to be a life guard ? The pay isn't great but it beats flipping hamburgers. I worked as a life guard all through high school and part of collage. During slow times or adult lap swim you can get some study time in. I even did privet swim lessons at a country club and made some serious money.

I worked as a chambermaid, at an ice cream store and at a department store, but that was many years ago. My friend's 15 year old daughter is now working as a bagger at a grocery store. My 16 year old niece works at a fast food restaurant and at a snack bar at the local baseball league. Try places like that. There's also babysitting. If you're in a tourist area, try gift shops, beaches. Maybe you can bus tables. Is there a YMCA or other fitness club that you can work at? Don't pass up unglamorous jobs. Washing dishes, taking out garbage, cleaning houses are not fun jobs, but they are all good, honest work that pays money. Good luck in your search!

I did survery work in the mall and on the phone - then I went on to sell other stuff by phone. Often telemarketing spots take young folks. I also worked at wendy's for a while, then in my last year of high school I got a sweet deal hostessing at the 94th Aero Squadron.
My sister worked at a movie theatre and my cousins worked in a local diner. My younger sister worked in a hair salon - shampooing customers and sweeping the floor. My husband bussed table in a restaurant and did laundry at a local hotel (sheets, towels, etc.).
Good luck and peace!
