Danny Elfman, he has that quarky sound, a few favorites would be Batman, Beetlejuice, nightmare before Christmas, also
James Newton Howard, who has done the scores for many movies, I think his latest is Lady In The Water. I liked his music in My Best Friends wedding .

John Luther Adams. I think his best work is NOT what he produces for film, but what he does in the abstract for performance. He did some of the soundtrack for The Matrix.

Ooooh. Way to many to list! You have John Debny to did Cutthroat Island, John Williams of course (most of his stuff is amazing) and then you have THe Lord of the Rings By Howard Shore......I could go on and on....
