If you are talking about man and woman: Love between a man and a woman is a meeting of the minds, knowledge that any kind of life together will be a series of numerous types of concessions for each other, a lot of empathy, not exactly sympathy, kindness toward one and other, realization about each other's needs, awareness of each other's ambitions, ability to go along with those ambitions (despite wanting your own goals), ability to share joys and sadness together for the greater outcome for both, and on and on. It is vital to have excellent communication between each other. The result, if there is not, is divorce--about half the time in the United States. And it goes without saying, fidelity to each other. You made your choice. You must stick with it or you will end up divorced. For sure.

I look at their eyes first. That tells me most things I want to know.
If it's online, then ... a certain self-assuredness? I suppose just the assumption that two human beings can talk sensibly. If someone is just who they are rather than being silly-scared. It's very difficult to say. I just know who I can talk to and who is going to be no use.
Working from there, then I look for honesty, a sense of humour ... but I don't actually LOOK for anything. I am just myself ... if someone wants to chat and make friends, that's fine. If not, then it's no skin off my nose.

I look for the following qualities (in a partner):
respectful
sincerity
honesty
trustworthy
faithfulness
true commitment for our relationship
companionship
share opinions or be okay with the opposing side
someone who shares same common interests
good communication skills
decent looking
funny
get along with my family/circle of friends
believes in God
someone to "complete" my happiness
