I heard ALL about the landfalls and weather. I'm not that used to the weather. I'm TERRIFIED to get over heated. My mom really wants to go since she hasn't seen her family in a long time. But I'm scared since I'm not used to VERY hot weather. I don't wanna dissapoint my mom saying I'm scared, but I just am TERRIFIED to go there. It looks so dangerous out there. I'm a Cali girl, not a Manila girl! HELP!

nope. the weather's not bad. its just the rainy season. landfalls seldom happen and it happens only in far off provinces. metro manila is very urban. the heat wont kill you. malls, restos, most homes, and even schools have air conditioning units.

and dont you think your moms family is yours, too? you are probably born in the united states but this is an opportunity for you to acknowledge if not, at least, get a glimpse of your roots. we in the philippines, value close family ties. im positive you will feel very much loved and protected during your stay.

do not be terrified. danger only operates under two principles:
a) it happens if you call it upon yourself by being unruly, and b) it can snap at you anytime, anyplace. so brave up young lady and harness that strong filipino side of you. if you will only see yourself as a cali girl, then that is all you will ever be.

i have a strong feeling you will eventually go. have a safe journey. try the food, savor the sights, and enjoy every minute of it.

If you get very easily terrified by every little thing, you should stay home and lock yourself in your room. Weather? during the months of June-October, it's like Houston, Texas but the mosquito's are not as big. Dangerous? More people get mugged in Los Angeles (Cali) in one day than the entire country (Philippines) in one year. But your mom's biggest disappointment could be that after all the cost of the trip (airfare, lodging, etc) to take you along, you'll spend the whole time complaining. Better stay home.

Noooo you should not go to Philippines...It's very dangerous out there...Heard about the landslides, terrorism, and it's very humid too....Ever heard of over heated cases as well? You cannot survive I'm pretty sure...

Yeah you are a CALI GIRL and a Cali Girl is not supposed to go to any third world country huh? You don't have to care whether your mom haven't seen HER family in such a long time, it doesn't matter, does it? So why give a fu(k? You are not Filipino anyways, you're American...Plus Philippines don't like "anak ni juan dela cruz" who are oa...Yan ang madalas makidnap sa Mindanao...Ay oo nga pala, You are a Cali Girl, not a Manila girl...

Happykitty, you're right...It's not sad when these ignorant people don't acknowledge their heritage, it's tragic. I live here in AZ and it's hotter than $hi+... well less humid nga lang kesa Pinas...Sarap dagukan neto...para bang malulusaw siya sa init ng araw sa Pinas.

Do your research kid, there are no landslides in Manila... it only happens in the provinces and I bet your mother will not take you there. Plus, it is not VERY hot in Manila, you might want to try the desert for that. I have lived in Manila for more than 17 years and now I have been living in Los Angeles for 5 years and all I can say is, Manila weather is similar to an average summer California day, only year-round. There have been very, very. very rare cases of anyone getting heat exhausted or "over heated" in Manila... just look at those foreigners whose GENES have evolved to survive in cold countries but did well, what more for a Cali girl who have filipino blood?

The only advice I can tell you, if you should go there, the Filipinos, at least those who grew up there, are very nice people and it would surprise you to find that they are nicer, funnier, and more outgoing than the people in California... only, don't over act because WE filipinos tend to resent people like that. It is rare for a filipino kid to be bratty or overacting...

Also, it's weird how when you said "she hasn't seen her family in a long time" about your mother. Sounds like somebody here doesn't think she has family in the Philippines... Filipinos love their relatives and especially admire those from America, so I hope you don't disappoint them by showing or complaining aloud about your "discomforts" because if you are planning to do so, just tell your mom you're having a seizure and she can fly to Manila by herself to see HER family.

I feel terrible about this question of yours because American born filipinos or those raised here criticize their own country worse than foreigners. It sucks. What's worse, they often emphasize that they are not Filipinos since they were born in America. Sad.

The phillipines is a wonderful place and I spent Two years there. I am from Utah. The heat isn't really that bad compared to Cali ( i grew up in the central valley) It's just more humid.

If I were you I'd enjoy the experience. THe food is great, the people are wonderful and it's just all around a great experience. If you get a chance see if your mom will take you up to the Banaue rice Terraces up in Ifugao Province. Beautiful.

the Philippines only has 2 seasons, dry and wet seasons

now it's the rainy season so you shouldn't have to worry about overheating, you should worry about the flooding that usually accompanies the rainy season

the landslides rarely occur and only in those steep areas in the provinces, these are usually due to the excessive rain

you shouldn't really worry about going to the Philippines, you'll be with your mom, she'll take care of you

and by the way, you shouldn't act that way towards your and your mom's homeland. I know that you're feeling weary about going to a country that has been branded as a "3rd world country" but it's not an excuse for your overreaction. (no offense meant)

You have every reason to be fearful. Rape and robbery are everyday occurrences in the Philippines. As these crimes mostly go unreported the rapist and thieves have free run of the country.
Right now the heat and humidity is unbearably. The air pollution puts everyone at risk for lung infections.
I think your mother will be shocked at how bad the conditions are in the Philippines. Do not assume that you are safe anywhere. many taxi drivers are thieves and rapists. Also there are many thieves and rapists in the malls. And in the movies.

is it the weather your afraid of or the "Philippines" it looks like somebody does not have any idea at all what the Philippines is.
My sister is in California and i asked her about the weather and she said that during day time it's really hot but at night it's really cold. about the landfall don't worry unless your relatives live in the mountains or provinces.

Be adventurous as you said your a Cali girl not a manila girl.

para mo na ring sinabi na walang utak ang mga Cali girl dahil wala kang alam sa pilipinas. Filipino ka pa man din....Duh!

How is she supposed to know that you are scared this trip if you don't tell her.You need to sit down and have a little chat with your mom and let her put your mind at ease She is not a mind reader you know, insted of asking total strangers ask her before you ruin this trip.Traveling and seeing other cultures is an experience that will stay with you for the rest of your life. There is beuty everywhere not just in Cali...So stop being a drama queen and talk to your mother!
