Someone told me you could take hail dents out of a car with dry ice. What is the process of doing this?

Yes. A small piece of solid CO2 (dry ice) put into the dent will contract the metal around it and the dent will pop out. It is used in paint less dent repair shops. If the dent is on a door panel, you might want a good pair of gloves to hold the dry ice in place while it does its trick. For hood, trunk and roof panels, just let it sit. if you can get behind it after it sits a while lightly push on the under side with something cold and flat
doesn't work on large dents just small ones

That really does not work, and I have seen it attempted. If you think about it, the dent is a distortion in the metal surface, and while it is conceivable that dry ice's thermal shock, when applied to a metal surface, might also cause the metal to "pop" and distort, it is not very likely that the metal, lacking a "memory" (with the rare exception of an alloy called nitinol) would pop back into place.

Still I did spend a very humorous hour with an insurance adjustor who insisted on trying it on my car once to try to avoid having to pay a $3,000 hail damage claim. He showed up at the body shop with a cooler of dry ice and amused me and the entire body shop crew who set aside their work to take in his ministrations. Failing to achieve the desired result, he picked up the cooler and ambled out doing the walk of shame. Of course had he succeeded we all would have been choking on our laughter.

I heard about using the dry ice, but you need to have your car out in the hot sun when applying the dry ice. I haven't tried it so I really don't know if it works.
