In the Army when people would be getting out for good, they would tie their boots together and throw them over wires, usually outside the barracks. Sometimes people would paint them

No no no. They are all wrong. It means another brother made it out of the hood. Sometimes making it out means death though. But you throw your sneakers over the wires to let the hood know you made it out.

I thought it meant that it is already being controlled by a particular gang...gangs know who the territory belongs to. The sneakers are usually of a fallen gang brother.

Found a place to live,settle down,take off the travelin' shoe and stay a while.OR where someone has lost their life,they don't need them anymore.I'm sure there are others as well

Gangs marking their territory is what I've heard. When I was little, I used to do it too but then I heard the gang thing. So really I'm not sure if it's true or not.

My boyfriend said that it means a drug test went down there. Originally.

He said he saw it on Law and Order or in a movie. Don't quote me on it though. :)

I have been told that, in this area, it means that you can get drugs there. I don't know if that is true, but several people have said that it is.
