My Friends pc got a virus and hes running xp home edition. It wont let him boot up on anything and cant see the hardrive. Hes tryin to reformat it but it wont let him do anything now.

The hard drive is found by the BIOS. A virus may have corrupted his Boot Sector and the drive will need to be repartitioned and then formatted.

When using XP Setup, watch for the spot where you can create a partion. Once the partition is created, the Setup will allow you to format it. And then setup will continue.

If his PC is not seeing that the hard drive is attached, then he probably did not have a virus. He probably has a bad hard drive. Usually if Windows does not see the drive is present then something mechanical has broken inside the drive and he will have to replace it.

He should be able to place the recovery cd into the cd rom while it's on then restart..here he shoul;d get options window..If that dosn't work he will have to go into the bios and set the cd rom as the first boot

Start it in safe mode, and restore the system
