Mainly because the Aztec empire was struggling with internal power struggles, on the verge of a civil war. This situation was caused by the bad situation the Aztec empire was in the first place, because of diseases that were spreading over the south american continent, brought on by those very spanish invaders.

They didn't.

Diseases that the Spanish brought with them wiped them out.

The Aztecs nor any other native populations had built up resistances (immune system responses) to micro-organisms that the Spanish brought with them.

Look it up.

Why would it not be the reverse ? Because Europe was a densely populated place, whose people were exposed to zillions of different organisms that came from all directions and from wide and varied populations from Europe, Asia, and Africa. Over time, they built up resistances to tons of different diseases.

The Aztecs were a pretty homogeneous, and isolated group, relatively speaking. So they were not subject to anywhere near the same number of diseases nor anywhere near the variety of them.

That happened throughout history, whenever a more isolated population made contact with Europeans. Just look at ancient Rome - they had population influxes from north, south, east, and west.
