The US or some other country will use its military might to "colonize" parts or all of the moon, then once the victors have their armies in place, they will start selling off parts of the moon, in true capitalist fashion, to the highest bidders.

So, no, no one will try and buy the moon because it doesn't belong to anyone, but someone will claim it as theirs, maybe in the name of humanity if we're lucky, and sell off bits and pieces. This is how the US came to be. The original Americans were just pushed aside militarily (as savages) and then the people claimed the land, and now they buy and sell it as if it really belongs to them.

Actually, the ONLY way you can Own the moon now without staking a claim on it and settling it is by owning all the land on the earth over which it now travels. Read Robert Heinleins "The Man who sold the Moon" so you would have to own everything above and below the equater say above and below, what? 30 degrees? I'm not real sure on that.

Search E-bay...parts of it have already been sold there.
As for the entire moon, I really really doubt it.
