Garage sales are not for making money. They are for getting rid of things. So many times we've been to Garage and Yard sales and found pricing that waas outlandish. Price things as if you really don't want them or the money and you will do better.

I had a yard sale last weekend and made a TON of cash....
Make as many signs as you can and put them everywhere. Make sure they are large enough and easy to read
Make all prices negotiable; many people will ask you to take less for the item than you marked it.
If you have any kids or know any kids, have them set up a lemonade stand and sell that at the same time (maybe even bake something if you have time)
You mention not wanting to spend any money; I paid $15.00 for an ad in the paper. It ran for three days, and many people told me that's how they heard about my sale.
If you are selling clothing, make sure everything is washed and on hangers, if possible.
Just a few things that came to mind; good luck with your sale!

Don't be foolish enough to think that just because you feel your possessions are all treasures that everyone else will. Price your items reasonably. They will sell better that way. If you try charging too much because you need the money so badly, no one will buy a thing. Most people go to garage sales for the fun of finding exactly what they "weren't" looking for at just the right price. Advertise in your local paper, put flyer's up in grocery stores, put an ad in your local ad circular. All are good bets for advertising. Good luck!

advertise. i had a garage sale. and used craigslist to announce it in advance. you can post an add on CL for free. it was the best garage sale i have ever had. i suppose if you use more than one place to advertise the better. like craigslist and some other local sites. plus you need lots of signs. and you have to get out there early. and keep it going. you also have to be willing to take less than your asking price. another good way to increase the sales. is to invite others to join in your sale. like friends and neighbors. that way it will be more appealing to a broader audience. good luck with your garage sale.

There are always people who come to garage sales before the opening time, and quickly grab the bargains. To prevent them from running off with bargains, on the price tags you should always double the price you want on all items, and then when the sale actually begins, put up a sign saying "50% off sale."

make deals with things like you buy a pan you get the spatual for only 15 cents so people buy more and it gets rid of your stuff...or make all you clothes the same price so people don't have to mess around with different prices. on larger items don't put a fixed price do a "make an offer" sort of thing. if you have tons of clothes that you don't think will sell well put them in a grab bag for like a dollar or two this way you'll be sure to get rid of it with a little something too!

Sell hot dogs, coneys and pop at your garage sale. Every time we did this we made at least half of our money on that. Put hot dogs in a crock pot or on the grill. You'll be surprised. For the little money you put into it. You will sell out.

Make as many signs as you can, you can use cardboard/posterboard and staple gun them to poles, or use stakes...
I've had several, and usually do well. Advertising is huge...if you can do an ad in the paper, hardcore yard sellers go to only ones in the paper...
make sure you have change and bags
I would have reasonable prices...people don't go to sells to spend alot of money...I've always had prices that I would spend...and the cheaper they are the more they buy. :)
good luck
