I ask myself the same question all the time. I work hard everyday to just get by and then was diagnosed with cancer and now owe thousands in hospital bills and my friend, an alcoholic gets free medicines, goes to school for free, and collects unemployment. This world just does not make any sense....

It's our retarded government. It's like the fact that I'm going back to work because I HAVE to. I've been a stay at home mom for 3 years only because my fiance has made enough to support our family. Well, he resigned his position because of personal reasons. Now I'm going back to work in 2 weeks. I would love to continue being a stay at home mom. I love being with my children. I think it's odd that if you are a single mom you can be a stay at home mom but if you're NOT single, you don't get help and HAVE to work. How is this right? It's like single mom's get rewarded while mom's that are with their children's' father get punishment. I applied for the medical card about 6 months ago because even though my fiance and children have insurance, I don't. I got denied because my fiance makes $50 a month too much. It makes me feel like crap when I go to the store now. Once a month I will stock up on a bunch of groceries. Granted I can only pay the minimum payment on all my bills when I do this. I see these people on welfare paying for hundreds of dollars in groceries with food stamps all the time. Another messed up situation: I got denied financial aid for college even though I have 2 children. The reason; because I don't support them myself. If I lived off the government or If I didn't stay home with my kids, I would have gotten about 7,000 bucks for the year. I'm making sure I start putting back $50 a week once I start working so that I'm able to go to college. I want my family to have it pretty good and if I have to bust my butt to do that, I will. I wish they would just take away welfare all together. Then the lazy people would die or work and the people that aren't on welfare may bring a little more money home each week.

Wow, it only took 4 answers for someone to blame the democrats...these guys are getting quick. Yes, these are the negative stories that seem to make it look like and unfair system. No matter how you adjust the system there will be people and stories where people have cheated the system. However, you cannot end the systems that help the many for the few that take advantage of it.

Medicaid doesn't buy street drugs. Depending on the state where you live, it is possible it pays for methodone treatment.

You really don't want to trade places with her, just to get the insurance, do you?

Get a better job, go back to school, and vote for people who won't support the current policies if they bother you so much.

That is the "american way"...don't get me started on this subject...

My husband and I have been struggling for years and everybody around us abuses the system to get medicaid, link card, andything and everything, hand outs galore. And we are barely getting by...and can't get any kind of help...

"we make too much" ha ha ha which makes me laugh, cuz we can barely buy food each month. A family of 3 eating on $200 a month worth of groceries...but if we lied like the rest we could be eating steak and living it up...bastards...

I guess lifes not fair and karma will catch up to them!!! I believe that, I have to!

A big question is, would you like to be poor and have the goverment give you a hand-out, or would you like to be a hard working people with self-respect?

You can do a lot of things for free if you lose respect for yourself.

By the way, medicaid does not pay you money.... so I think you are confusing it to something else.

No, it's not fair - but hey... I still want to pay my own way, thankyouverymuch...

Stop worrying about the freeloaders and focus on yourself and the things you can control. If you're not happy and not making money, what can you do to improve your own situation? Night school? Computer classes? Sales? Obviously you know how to use a computer. Is there an way you can capitalize on that? Comparing yourself to others and whining about your situation is only going to make it worse. If you want something better for yourself - go get it! Good Luck!

you know what?? I can agree with you...I would try calling the medicaid office and asking them this... how is it that somebody gets to intentionally abuse the system and O.D on drugs with their know abouts and get to keep their benefits while somebody like you works their *** off to maintain a decent job with no benefits at all??? Tell them you are not sure what they call it but your term is called "milking the system"...You don't have to provide your name as call-ins are suppose to be kept confidential....Call you local SSI office....good luck....

if you really want advice, here it is: focus on your life and how to be happy with it, instead of looking at someone else who seems to be at the end of his luck. you never know if he's used up all his luck and he'd drop dead tomorrow, very, very miserable and very unhappy. We''ll never know.
what we know is you are productive, have a good amt. of self respect and you can work out things in your life that you choose to, though it may take some work. Its alright, everyone's life needs working on, in diff. aspects. Money, self, family, health cars, houses, ( do you want me to go on w/ this?) etc. At the end of the day, what matters is your peace of mind, with or without the things you want in your life. And that takes a fair amt. of disciplining your thoughts....
I hope that helps.

Your neighbor is a loser and a user. If you work in a factory and make minimum wage, you may qualify for government benefits. If your neighbor keeps overdosing, he/she will not last long.
