I was 18 and ready. I think it just depends how responsible you are. If you wait until your really ready you'll end up living with your parents forever like one of the people I work with had a baby at 18 and raised him in her parent home,is now 54 and still lives with her parent. You have to just fly by the seat of your pants sometimes.

I moved out at age 17--and yes, I think I was ready because I made enough money to pay the rent and support myself. Wasn't always easy because as a teen I didn't think about saving money as I would now. It is important to sit down and calculate all expenses before making that move.....you need heat, cooling, rent, food, clothing, transportation, laundry(unless you got your own w/d). You want cable, the internet, telephone, a cell phone...all that costs money and so you really have to calculate and create a budget. Cause you can be put out if you don'w pay the rent, or lose electricity/phone etc. if you don't pay your bills on time, and you won't be able to eat if you have too little money to make it...Good Luck

As soon as I graduated from high school I joined the Army back in the 60's and have had no regrets ever! It was the best decision I ever made. My life improved or changed completely as I left a rotten life under tyrannical parents, and a disfunctional bullying family . Thereafter, I succeeded in life to date: spiritually, professionally, and I married the best lady in the world. I have a wonderful family and great grandchildren. In response to your question, I was 18 and I was absolutely sure I was ready from the day I could remember.

i moved out at 19. it was good being at home for the first year of college because it would have been really hard trying to handle a new school and new level of responsibility and getting used to college AND trying to get used to being on my own.
i recommend this plan to everyone, it set me up for success. by the time i moved out, i was used to school and what my expectations were for my degree and then i could focus on being a responsible adult with my own place (well, ok not THAT responsible, but hey i was only 19).
i'm 22 now and i still have my own place and i wouldn't have it any other way.
