I have read all of the answers you have so far.
I wear LOTS of Silver everyday.
This is what I do depending on how I feel at the time:
Tarn-X can be bought at Wal-Mart by the cleaning supplies. Just dip your silver, rinse it off and dry with a soft cloth. Works great if you have alot to do. Not real good for some stones though.
Silver polishing cloth bought in the jewlery department at Wal-Mart. Just rub it leaves a black mark on the cloth but the jewlery is shiny just don't forget to turn the cloth over and use the other side cause there is a treatment in the other side that will keep it shiny for awhile.
Toothpaste on a cloth works good especially if you only have one ring

OK, I read all the answeres you got. I worked at the local jewlers while in college, cleaning jewlery. DON"T use toothpaste. Oh it will clean the ring but it will also remove the protective coating on silver that stops it from tarnishing. Use window cleaner!! Put the ring in a small dish and pour the window clearner over the ring. Soak it for about an hour. Remove the ring from the cleaner and run it under very hot water, then dry it. Believe me it will do the job and look beautiful!!! Good Luck!

A wonderful thing to have at home is a silvercloth, you can get one inexpensively from any jewelry store. All you do is rub your silver item with the cloth and the tarnish comes right off on the cloth, leaves it shiny and new. I clean my gold with it also. it's not abrasive, it's easy, plus you don't have to use polish or chemicals. Yay!

an old way of cleaning silver was to soak it over night in buttermilk and then wash it in warm soapy water the next day. This would remove the tarnish from all the little indents in the silver

A silver polish. Put it on, wait a few moments and then with a different cloth rub it off. Magic!

Try a little bit of tooth paste. If that doesn't work you can buy silver polish.

'Silvo' or another good quality metal and silver polish is always good. Always check the instructions to make sure any polish is safe for silver though!

silver polish -- takes lots of time for silverware and dishes, shouldn't take very much time for a ring. wear rubber gloves --it can be corrosive.
