Why do you get so upset? Did you have a bad fall off the other horse? Cantering is nothing to worry about, just remember to keep your legs heels down, sit up straight and try to relax. Keep a firm grip on the reins, not tight, not to loose, and try to feel the rythem of the horses stride. Cantering can be the most comfortable of all gaits whether you ride english or western. Don't get tense that can cause the horse to sense this and speed up. Just go with the flow and enjoy.

well what u could do is get someone 2 lunge u till u get use 2 cantering then try it on ur own. Try not 2 think about ur last fall just think about all the good times u will have with this horse when u learn how 2 canter. I know how u feel i have had a rough time after i feel off my horse Sugar, it was about 2 years that i got back on. Now i am doing fine and having a blast.

If Cinnamon is sweet you just have to realise that she isn't going to hurt you. Are you cantering her in an inclosed arena? Try giving her just enough rein that she can canter comfortably and put your hands on her neck. Let her canter 5 strides and calmly tell her to stop and give her a pat. Then, when you are comfortable with that, try 10 strides, then 15 up until you aren't scared anymore. As long as she is being good and you aren't strangling her with the reins you both will be just fine ;o)

Over time, you'll become more confident. Just tell yourself that you CAN ride Cinnamon in the right way. He's a different horse than Rocky, anyway.
And remember - every rider takes falls! You just gotta get back on and ride again. :)

You need to build up your trust with this animal. Ride him a lot at just a walk and trot. Keep trying to ride him at a canter. Just remember to take a deep breath and not panic. Practice and some self talk, you will get there.

try half halting, like just slowly but firmly pull back on one rein and he should slow down but dont panic cuz if u do itll make yer horse nervous also. just take a deep breath and relax when he starts to canter and try the half halt on the outside rein

if you learned how to spell it would be much easier for me to understand!
But lets go to the question. You should build a relationship, and if you want him to only trot you should "sit the canter" which is not letting your behind come out of the seat...

Just use a harder hand on him squeaze your hands and use a hard seat. Sit firm. Ask a riding instructor what a hard seat is and a hard hand.
