I dont mean to be mean... but your laws to protect women are terrible and I found that Ozzie women hate American women... WHY????????

2006-07-14 15:32:10 · update #1

I have tried like hell to have the cops help me. I think that one big problem is that we are in Adelaide. S.A. I didnt mean the comment about Aussie women in that sense, and no... I am from the west coast of the USA... so I am NOT arrogant and rude. The cops have been to our house 13 times. Three times they witnessed stuff broken all over the house. I dont have acess to any banking, I dont have a car, and the neighboors here are tenants to his property and they are scared of him. So, my only route I guess is to call the American Embassy to get back home to the USA... where if a cop sees this, the VERY FIRST TIME... no matter who he is... no matter where the area... he goes to jail. I just think your laws are very laxed and I even asked the cop... why is it, that if a man and a woman have an arguement and a man hits a woman here, he doesnt go to jail. The cops exact words were, " Go home to Yankee land!" and he started to laugh. So no, I dont feel safe here and NO COP in America would..

no cop in America would EVER talk to a OZZIE this way, little on if they did get away with it! That is total bullshit! HE has a safe, I have even tried to sneek money. I dont know that pass code to the bank card. So, I am messed until I go to a shelter and call the embassy, because even the shelters dont help or Aid Americans for more then 1 night here. I love Oz land, so dont take me wrong. I think it so beautiful and I love it. I have just been ruined on the idea of Ozzie men, this is all. In America, and I swear to God this to be the truth, and I wouldnt swear to god and lie, I am a Catholic and I fear my soul to hell for such a thing, but in America, all my sisters and all women I talked to, told me to stay away from Aussie men that they were mean to thier women and left them outside while in bars. LOL! Outside at the bars was a little much, for that is total bull%%% but the mean part, maybe it was just circumstance and I got the wrong ozzie man. GOd I wish a man would kick his ass

Girl I know the laws suck for aussie women, I am an exparte aussie living in Indiana and my ex was abusive physically and mentally all the time and the cops didnt and wouldnt help me, he always seemed to get away with it. As for aussie women hating american women, that is not actually the case, aussie women are pretty laid back as a rule, do u think that maybe u are coming off as an arrogant yank, lighten up a little and u will find that we really dont hate you at all. I dont think americans realise that as a nation you can come across very arrogant and kinda rude, keep that in mind when u socialise and try to keep a laid back demeanor and u will find that the women wont treat you like some little ant they wanna squish. Good luck, may I suggest that if he is getting physical with you that u take off to the nearest police station file a report then go to the courthouse and get a P.O against him, I had to do that and I did it as soon as he left and while the marks on me were fresh.

I've not been able to find any statistics supporting your argument on Australian men vs any other men. I'd argue that you get good & bad in ALL nationalities, religions, sexes.

I must say though that I've personally been in contact with people that have been in abusive relationships. I feel for you. I've got to say that you appear to have one big difference to these people.

You recognise that there is abuse. Please do something about it. Statistics I HAVE found state that only 30% of cases are reported.

You may say that in Australia, reporting doesn't do anything. What should happen? Should police force you to leave? Force the other party to leave?

Honestly I can't see this being unique to Australia. It may seem harsh, it may seem patronising not knowing the full story but bottom line, GET OUT!!!! The police & the laws can't do it for you.

ps yes I am male, I am an Aussie

I don't think that all Aussie men are mean to their wives, however I am an Aussie and I personally don't want to marry an Aussie guy just because im my view some of them, their morals and standards are a bit too relaxed for my taste. It just depends on their up bringing and religion...
I would like to say that the laws here are pretty good regarding the treatment of women. If your husband is abusing you then I advise that you leave him it your situation doesn't improve. how can the laws protect you if you aren't trying to protect yourself.

Hi Amieann,

I know that you are in an unhappy marriage but for the life of me I can't figure out why it is that when women like you see the writing on the wall...why it is you still continue on with the relationship.

While you were still engaged to him, he cheated on you. Didn't bells start ringing in your head? Wasn't this telling you something? And yet, you still went ahead with it all and married him anyway.

What I am talking about is the fact that you had an opportunity to end the relationship with him before you got married. If you had, you wouldn't be in the mess you are in today.

Now somebody explain it to me. Why do women continue to pursue relationships after being given early warning signs of graver things to come?

"Well, I thought he would change!" Yeah...right...Get it into your head girls that generally speaking, men DO NOT change...what you see is what you get the rest of your life together in marriage.

As for you Amieann I would do now what you should have done before you married him...leave him.

The Aussies are in general very laid back people,I have know both good and bad ones like wise with Americans.maybe you picked one of the bad apples,As far as the laws in Aussie go they are very much in favor to the women in divorce, get out if he is beating you up,would not matter what race he was its wrong and you are crazy to stay, go home, start a new life, and watch out for that type of man, maybe it was your fault after all you chose to marry him,or did he drag you to the alter screaming

Wonder why you women always get fascinated by the wrong guys!?

Ozzies are known to be bigoted gaspots and yet you married the sob?

Now that you know about OZ firsthand, why don't you call it a day and come back home?

Or, is it that you like being in deep s hit?

Since Australia is so far away from the US and Europe they have no competition, so they're going to treat women (and people in general) the way they please. You should have gone to Europe or stayed in the US and found yourself a real man like I did. Sorry you had such a hard time.

Go to your local Courthouse. Ask for an Apprehended Domestic Violence Order (they may have different names in different States). They hand them out like confetti. If he breaches it, he goes to jail.

Go to any Women's Refuge - your local council should know where to find them, and they are probably in the phone book. They will offer advice and counselling.

Quite frankly, if you have not been able to get protection you have not tried very hard.
