Zidane said on TV that Materazzi was pulling his jersey, and he told him: "if you want it, I'll give it to you after the game", and Materazzi replied with "some very harsh words" addressed to his mother and sister.
Materazzi confirmed the jersey thing, but he said Zidane said it in a very arrogant tone, so he insulted him, but didn't insult his mother because he lost his own mother when he was 15 and for him mothers are sacred.
Both Zidane and Materazzi agreed that the insult wasn't a racial slur.
A logical conclusion: Materazzi must have said "son of a *****" or something like that, mentioning Zidane's mother but not actually insulting her, since it's an idiom and it can't be taken too personally. And he might have added: "your sister is a whore".
Zidane snapped and headbutted him.
It sounds like a kindergarten fight, doesn't it?

Some Lip reading "experts" have said on newspapers in Europe that Materazzi said " Thats is not for you, you cant get it".... Zidane looked at him and said something..( conviniently they cant understand what he said).... Then Materazzi supposedly said " We all know that you are the son of a terrorist whhore".... Then zidane came back and head butted him.... Still, if you're a jock and cant take trash talk.... you're in the wrong business.

Well Zidane says that Materazzi insulted his mother and sister two or three times. On the other side, Materazzi said that he would never insult anyone's mother since he lost his mother when he was 15 years old.
