No way if you recall they had some luck that season.

I saw a ESPN special several months ago that stated the season schedule difficulty for the 1972 Dolphins was very low (somewhere around .390 winning percentage). In today's league with 16 regular season games and some of the most vicious and violent defenses to date, the 1972 Dolphins would get mauled. The 1972 Dolphins never had to deal with the 46 Defense or the emerging popularity of the new Cover 2 scheme. Coaches like Belichick, Cowher, Dungy, Gruden, Shanahan, etc. would use more creative means to get around that team's abilities.
That team had a special season that no one can ever take away from them, but if they played today (in their prime, not as they are), then their win streak would end lightning fast.

Why do people ask this question? Really - the rules, the players... everything has changed. Back then it was a pounders game - hit them on offense, hit them on defense and get a few hit inbetween. Todays it is much more geared towards points and protecting the players. I'd bet that any team from today who player the '72 Dolphins in '72 (with the rules and such of back then) wouldn't stand a chance. Couldn't take the hits or play like they are use to. In the same way, the '72 couldn't beat any team in today's league today. Because of the difference in the rules and the way teams are/were built. To sum all that up - it's not a great question. Honestly. You just /can't/ compare teams from different eras.

72 Dolphins would be very competitive. Players these days limp off the field with hangnails. The league is too watered down with all the new teams, the good players are spread out. Those Dolphin players could handle injuries, Griese's broken leg the exception. And don't you think they would use today's training methods if they were playing today? If any of these current teams had to play in the old days they would not have roids and the overdone gimmicky robo-training, they'd be whimps!

No, that team didn't use enough steroids to compete with today's teams...j/k
But seriously, I don't think they would for several reasons... The statistical improbability of repeating that feat regardless of talent or skill would make it unlikely to happen. Also, I believe that there are more games are played now, making it even more unlikely then it was in 72. Furthermore, I believe that the players are bigger and faster today.

I think the 72 Dolphins could beat today's teams because today's teams are so watered down talent wise, they would win pretty easily in my opinion.

im a dolphins fan....but im gonna go with "its impossible to say!"
haha
because you can't compare the different teams because they played different, ppl were smaller, shorter, not as smart(play-wise)
in their time, they OWNED
they had 6 hall of famers on that team, plus arguably the best nfl coach in history in don shula.....hell teams today might have, atmost, 2-3 hall of famers in a season

Nope. Not a chance, However, they did it during a different time so kudos to them.
It's really comparing apples to oranges. Today's football player
is bigger, faster and stronger.
