Sounds like you rented the entire apartment to those people...so, I would charge what ever is the going rate, in your place...
Now, if your staying there, in a room, I would pay half the utilities, and let them take care of the mortgage...

you said the magic word------------- GIVEN----------and now,your trying to put the cart before the horse,my experience is horses see the cart coming and try to stay a step ahead --becare what you ---------give again . But i dont see any good coming of this.
