All the other stuff= racial stereotype.
Shoes in houses= it's the etiquette in most Asian countries to remove shoes when entering a residence, or government buildings. (I think gov buildings...) It's the equivalent to using the doormat in America. What maypoledance said about the education thing is right too.

Because, when all the rich white people enjoy life, Asains are forced to "study" everyday, and take the PSATS at age 10 and are expected to score higher than 1400. When other people are playing Asians are studying. That is how we get into a decent college and get high-paid jobs. That's why America is so "smart". They lead a successful life. They are not borned naturley smart. The only difference they have from other people is how much they hard work they put in education and school. But, all people could do that too, if they tryed harder. Asians understand what hard working is, I mean did you see the first Asians in America? They were discriminated and did all the dirty jobs. That is hard work. Asians have a goal in life, and they will achieve it. If all people did that, well, everyone would have big houses, lots of money, and are smart. Asians don't get those things over night, they labor for those things, over hundreds of nights.
And the shoe part..
Well thats another story. LOL=]

Asians do not have big house - my house is only 1300 sqft and that's all I want.
I do not have lots of money though I am comfortable.
I am VERY VERY VERY smart - yes.... (NOT)
I do not always take my shoes off in my house... In Japan, that's just part of a culture.
But don't you think it make sense to take shoes off when coming into your clean house and walk on carpet? You walked on all kinds of wet, dirty, and otherwise not-so-nice things outside. Why would you want to bring that in?
By the way, what you said, other than shoes thing is a big stereo-type. None of them is actually universally true for all Asians. It also has a lot to do with how you measure "smart", also. "Asian" is a pretty big category, too. That's like saying "white people are...."
(I'm a naturalized citizen of US and formerly Japanese)
No, I'm not offended. I just think it's funny how all of us get rumped into one category like that....
By the way, if you ask any Japanese people in Japan who recently visited US, they almost always say
1) American people are very kind
2) Kids in US are very well behaved and obey their parents
3) They took us to when they found out I didn't speak English well
Think about this a second....

The Japanese remove their shoes ... sometimes, and the Asian culture is far more disciplined and regimented than many others. They attend school year round, and there is a more strong family values system than exists in many parts of the world. When they enter the work force, they are totally at peace with the 60 hour week, while Americans require overtime pay after only 40. They work hard to get lots of money and big houses.

Alot of the other is because of hard work and the other because to in the US often takes money or did in the past. As a result they already had the skills, training or drive.
Shoes has to do with Asian manners. Floor and nice and clean you dont drag in dirt from outside and so dont bring your shoes in the house. Indians, Koreans and Japanese do this. All the others Im pretty sure too.

We have big house because we have a lot of money from being smart and doing well in school. We take off our shoes as respect and because it is more comfortable than walking around in sandals or shoes.

They don't always have big houses and lots of money, and they aren't always smart. Trust me on this.
On that note, many do and are. Mostly because their parents expect them to study more and so they get better jobs and do the same thing to their kids. And the ones who grow up in Asia come from a culture that values education a lot more than we do right now.

Not all have riches and its a culture thing. And whats more, taking off your shoes before coming in the house helps keep the floors clean.

I think you have it mixed up. They have big families; the dollar to foreign currency exchange rate gives them the appearance of having lots of money; they don't live in America with a gazillion distractions - as a result they stay focused. And they take off their shoes so as not to track in dirt and mud from the outside on to their grass hut floors.

The asians I see are not rich, nor do they have houses, and the shoe removal is great, I wish everyone would do it. It would preserve floors & carpets and cut down on the time and effort spent in keeping them clean!
