Overrated? He didn't have a great year this year and he knows it. For the first time since he came in the leauge he didn't lead the Spurs in scoring. The media said it was the Planter Facitis (foot and heel problems) but he never once complained or blamed it on the foot. He had a quiet season but the series with the Mavs was unbelieveable individually for him. Yes given he didn't have much help from his teammates, not that they didn't try, but he averaged 32 points, 12 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game vs. the Mavs. He shows an excellence in winning and impacts his team and the game quietly. He is one of the most efficient players in the leauge. In the Game 6 that eliminated New Jersey in the 2003 Finals, he was two blocks short of a quadruple-double (21 pts, 20 rbs, 10 as, 8 bk). He is a motivating player to those who are young to play the game right and not complain. I been a fan of the Spurs since the 97-98 season. He is all on the all-NBA and All-NBA Defensive teams. He's won all three Final's MVP and two regular season MVP's back to back, which not many players do (Steve Nash, Magic Johnson to name a few). I play Jr. High basketball but I know I'm not likely to make it to the NBA but if I do or don't I want a quiet, confident, winning, unselfish attitude like his.

Tremendous impact. A good one two punch of him and the now-retired David Robinson that enabled San Antonio a championship in the lockout shortened season of '98-99, and in 2003. But the thing is........The Celtics would have had him if they weren't screwed out of the #1 pick that year. Boston got hosed. They should have had that #1 pick, they needed it much more. It's ok though. Duncan's one of the few NBA players I like because he doesn't run his mouth.

I think the best indicator of the greatness of Tim Duncan is a comparison with his teammate, David Robinson. As great an athlete David Robinson was, he never won a NBA championship as the star of the Spurs, and in my view, probably would have never won a championship without Tim Duncan.
