America against "people in America?" I don't understand. I see all this arguing going on and the ANGRY words. I just don't understand. There is war everywhere - people have their opinions and it's like no one says "yes, I see your point too but....." and have a regular discussion? We've all disagreed as people for years (relationships, everything) but this political war --- I've seen people almost get in fistfights at work --- adults - mature adults because someone doesn't like the other's opinion. Then when asked what we all want is PEACE but we can't have peace in our own country. I try to be open minded and I'm an Independent so no one needs to yell at me here. I am partially conservative about issues and partially liberal. I listen to both sides and agree or disagree. Doesn't mean the person I disagree with needs to be punched in the nose. What is going on here? I don't understand.. The "words" on here are harsh. We all have opinions.

We are polarized like never before because we are in transition.

The "media" has been controlled by left-leaning journalists since WWII. That has been changed and there are now alternatives to the 3 major TV outlets and multitude of liberal newspapers.

The lock on media, the rise of "red states" against the muddled Democratic platforms, the stifling of using the courts to "legistlate from the bench" and 2 close elections have made the 2 parties very antagonistic.

It's not enough to disagree with the administration, you must be convinced they are EVIL, that America as we know it will never be the same.

It's a shame we can't come together in a time of war.

the words here are harsh. i do think the problem is the media, though i haven't seen the "liberal media" myself. the news does not seem interested in discussing things in ways that make any sense, so i think there is a polarizing effect. it seems as though any time you open your mouth, everyone else sees an opportunity to declare their position... and it's usually as far from yours as possible.

the problem is... i don't know what to do. i am (mostly) sincere in my positions, and i have to trust that all of you are too.

the only thing i can think of, is although we all have opinions: try as hard as you can to include facts and evidence in yours, so the person who doesn't agree with you has a piece of reality to observe in your words. when you just say, "isn't killing a baby murder?" (for example!! not assuming you're pro-life or anything!) ... there is no way to respond but "no it's not!" if you disagree.

the end. no progress, just the same old silliness that doesn't solve anything. and this video is all creepy showing how "they" make the news for both sides!

I really like what R J has to say. It's probably one of the most well thought out answers I have heard on this post.

People scratched and fought their way out of jungles not many millenia ago. Humanity still maintains that mindset of eat or be eaten.
