The scouting way is you hand it back to me closed and I say "thank you" and then you release it.

I would not accept it until you closed it. A closed knife should be returned closed. By the same token, an open knife should be returned open. Otherwise, the knife will 'cut' the bonds of friendship between borrower and lender. :)

Chitchenitza has the right info. In the Phillipines, we won't accept an open knife; you must return it closed. Nor would you give a knife set as a wedding gift. Blood will spill between you and the wedded couple.

If I let you borrow my pocket knife, I trust you an awful lot and you better return it closed, its bad luck to hand it back open.

I would ask you to close it first then hand it back to me. It is suppose to be bad luck if you don't and I accept the knife back. Superstitious I know, but I still do it, lol.

You will close my pocket knife before you set it down. Then I will pick it up. Then I will kick you so hard in your left ankle. I have told you before, never touch my pocket knife mister.

I wouldn't recieve it from you. You would have to close it first. The person that opens always has to close. If not me or a family member will be stabbed someday. I know tons of them. Both Grandmothers Native American.

first off ...I get it..ppl are very sarcastic these days...the reason being because its bad luck to point the stupid knife at ya...second borrowing sharp objects such as scissors and knifes supposed to bad luck, since if it's not returned it "cuts off friendships"
