How can i get my computer to play avi, mpeg movies and mpg? When i download(payed of course) movies i cant play the avi, mpegs' and can only play the mpg. What is an avi, mpeg compared to a mpg? And how can i rectify this so that i may enjoy more movies(for a fee)?

Mpg and mpeg are the same thing, and both should play in Windows Media Player. But you might not have the right codecs. Avi also can usually play in Windows Media Player, but some have the Divx codec that requires the Divx player.

You can download a more universal program. Apple's Quicktime plays MPG/MPEG files. So does Real Player and Windows Media Player. If they dont work for some reason, try downloading a DivX codec from Divx.com.

You may need to know what format they were created with. I know a lot of AVI files created with DivX won't play on Windows Media Player. Otherwise, try right clicking on the file, and choose "Open With", and hopefully Media Player should be one of the choices. Often, once you get it to play once, it will remember the next time. Otherwise, you have to hunt up how to change file properties on your system, and assign what program is supposed to open those types of files.
