Cover it with manure, then dirt.
Water weekly.
The manure will rot it faster.
You can also buy stump powder that says that it helps.
I think my ways is the best.
Like a mulch pile!

RE:
How do I get rid of a stump after I've cut down the tree?
Other than woodpeckers, beavers, carpenter bees and hiring a stump removal company or renting a stump grinder, what can I do to help accelerate the decomposition process?

That old stump grinder does the best job, but if you don't want to go that route you can take an ax, start at an outside edge of the stump and try shaving it with slices of the ax about an inch apart. This will help stump decompose quicker. You might try watering the stump to speed up it's decomposition as well!

Use StumpOut® to get rid of ugly tree stumps with a minimum of hard labor! Just drill a few holes in the stump and pour in StumpOut®. It decomposes the wood in a few weeks, leaving holes all the way down. Then drop in a match to burn the pulp. Some chopping may be required on larger stumps. Nonexplosive, dry granular formula. 1lb. can for one stump.

They make a chemical for that. You need to be able to drill some good sized holes in the stump....like 1'' x 12'' deep. Then pour in the poison and wait....................... a year or so.
There's a brush on product that has to be applied immediately after cutting but it may be limited to smaller size trees.

Cut the stump flush with the ground. Drill six 3/4" holes on an angle towards the center of the stump. Fill holes with rock salt and cover the stump with mulch.

Well the Amish sink two or three ears of field corn under the stump then turn the hogs loose. After the first ear is dug up it takes them no time at all to dig the stump out of the ground looking for more. Work smart...not hard!

Drill a lot of holes in it and pour buttermilk on it. I've never done it,but that's what our radio garden guy says to do.

you can build a mini decomposition pile around it and wait a few months for it to deteriorate, or you can just rent a stump eater from a major hardware chain, or call in a tree surgeon to use theirs and pay them.
