I've read many posts on here where a girl is pregnant and she's terrified to tell her parents because they'll disown her or be hateful to her and not help her through her pregnancy. It's not only young girls...I just answered a question from a foreign guy who got an American woman pregnant (they're both apparently adults) and he's scared to tell his parents.

I can see why someone (esp. a young girl) would be afraid...I'd probably have been scared sh*tless if I'd gotten pregnant as a teenager...but would you parents actually disown you? I imagine most parents with a pregnant teenager would be horrified, angry, irate, depressed...any number of things, but who would actually disown their daughter (or son, if he got a girl pregnant) or kick them out of the house? My parents would have NEVER done this.

I don't know but I feel very sorry for them. I always knew that my parents would love me and be there for me through anything. That's not to say that they wouldn't have been really pissed at me if I had ever found myself in some of the situations these girls bring up, but I always knew in the end I could count on them. I hope that my daughter trusts in my love when she grows up. I would do anything for her no matter what trouble she were to get into.

I have to say that there is a fear of being disowned, luckly for most teens there parents dont actually do it but they do fear that it could happen. I am 21 and 9 months pregnant, I am still young but not a teenager, anyway my mother wants nothing to do with me or her grandson. It has nothing to do with my age but her grandson is going to be a mixed baby...Im white and the father is black. She has known that Ive been pregnant for about 4 months now, I waited along time to tell her just because I knew how she would act and I didnt want to lose my family, its not just her but all my aunts and everyone on her side. My dad is here for me and loves me no matter what. But my half sister (dads child....we have different moms) emialed my mom just trying to give some words of encouragement and was told that That I could tell the baby that his grandmother is dead....so I do believe and understand the fear of telling your parents.

I think what people actually fear is not their parents, but how they will be perceived by everyone because of the mistake they have made.

Parents are the ones who love us the most and so whether we want to admit it or not, their perception of us is important. It's the embarrassment of having our sin found out that really scares us.

Our parents are sort of like a microcosm of society at large, and they are also authority figures like God our Father. We just don't want to let them down. It hurts to admit failure.

Well there are some parents who disown thier children in the beginning and send them out of thier house but after sometime they do change and things turn out to be better.

I would tell my parents anything. However, I HATE letting them down. up until my mid 20's I would hate to disappoint them but now I know they'll be fine.. (yes I'm still in my 20's - lol)

I don't think it is fear. I feel it is more of a feeling that you have let down your parents and the hurt you are going to cause them.
