They filmed and have been filming many movies most recently Pirates of the Carribean part 2 and 3 at an old airplane hanger in Lancaster just a few miles from where I live. Movies are shot in Los Angeles constantly at various places. I used to live a block from Venice Beach and they were always shooting something out there. Movies like L.A. Story and Point of No Return had lots of parts in Venice Beach.

Several, actually. When I lived near Phoenixville, PA, Steve McQueen made his first movie there, called "The Blob." It's a Sci Fi classic now, and I expect to find it on DVD one day.
Then when I lived in San Francisco, there were several; don't remember any titles.
Now I live near Santa Cruz, and there have been several there, too. The only title I remember is "The Lost Boys," a sort of punk update of Peter Pan. I never saw it, but saw all the stuff about the making of it in the news.

I live in Chicago so too many to mention. A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon was filmed on the street I lived on at the time. And I almost walked through the scene in Payback where Porter comes out of the subway and takes money from the beggar sitting there (I was on my way to work and was oblivious to my surroundings, until a huuuuuge security guard jumped in front of me and directed me around the sidewalk).

I used to work in an office building in downtown LA and they were always filming movies. Phone Booth, Spiderman 2, and many others. There were scenes for a Madonna movie several years ago filmed 2 blocks from my home.

Factory Girl with Hayden Christensen and Sienna Miller. It was shot here in Shreveport, Louisiana. I think it comes out later this year. It has something to do with Andy Warhol and one of his lovers.
Steel Magnolias was shot an hour away in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
