I am 49, more than a tad overweight (5'3"-- 160 lbs), exercise 3 days a week on average, eat reasonably healthly, ex-smoker (12 years but gave up 18 years ago), drink alcohol daily (2-3 glasses of wine).

I am also unsure sure whether I am peri/post-menopausal (just 3 months to-date).

Thoughts please?

I think you should see a doctor about your hand. It might just be some carpal tunnel that will respond with treatment.

But at our age and our extra lbs, ex-smokers, etc., you need to rule out heart problem.

DO IT TODAY. Good Luck

A variety of things could cause this to say the least. Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Pinched Nerve, Carpal Tunnel, etc. Worse case scenario that happened to my friend Russell was Guillain-Barre Syndrome. First he had numbness in his fingers, then his hands, then his feet and it just kept moving mroe and more towards the core of his body until when he finally fell trying to go down the stairs he was finally taken to the hospital and diagnosed. If this disease isn't treated it will shut down the nerves that make your lungs and heart work thus fatal. Sounds like a doctor's or clinic visit might not hurt.

Sounds like the beginnigs of a Stroke to me. Smile in a mirror, if the right side of your smile is lower than the other or if you notice any signs of slurred speech, GO SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY!!!
