Vietnam's economy is going to boom. The state used to be a drag on the country, but now it seems like some of the hard line communists are either retiring or softening. I went back last year after being away for two years and I can't believe how Ho Chi Minh City has changed. THe free enterprise zones have made small islands of relatively corruption free areas which so many firms are utilizing right now. The high literacy, wage differential as well as South Vietnamese history of working with Americans has helped Vietnam a lot. Also, I think the corruption issue is going to push the economy more since I think that the public is sick of it and the Vietnamese press is discussing it more than they used to. I think the soccer was just too much to stomach for many folks.
As far as Vietnamese people, they are authentic, meaning they seem to tell you the way they feel about something without seemingly to befriend everyone, which is a criticism I have heard about Americans.
Seems like the war is more remembered with the Viet Kieu here than it is in Vietnam.

I love Vietnam. I visited the Ho Chi Minh, the delta, Hanoi and Halong Bay in the winter. Vietnam is a beautiful, amazing country. I do believe the U.S. war in Vietnam was shameful and as an American I apologize for the devistation my country caused yours. I'm sorry you won't hear that from too many others. I hope Vietnam will have a long period of peace and prosperity. After fighting the Chinese, French, Americans and Cambodians you sure deserve it.

I lived thru that era (the war), and I think a log of young men (my peers at the time) died for nothing. Absolutely nothing. That war almost tore this country apart. I try to forget it.

However, I like the people from there and have nothing against them. I think they are a lot more interesting than many people here. I think variety is the spice of life.

To humid for me but credit where credit is due it is beautiful. though advancement of community and people of power the wars of the past MUST NOT be forgotten, or history will repeat as it does (in such refined ways).
Yes every country can gain international standing but that is up to 'THE POWERS' at be to enable such an advancement.
